January 15th lesson

Dear students, Today you will prepare for your final solo presentation which should be a minimum of five minutes in time. You may choose a topic from the following: a) AI b) literature c) climate change d) globalization Your speech should be well researched, new and interesting, and contain a critical thinking component. Therefore, in order to be new and interesting, you should not deliver a speech that your classmates may have heard before. Your final presentation is worth 30 points. Kind regards, Chris Elvin

December 4th lesson

Dear students, Today you will deliver your fourth presentation, which will be about Christmas. You should speak for a minimum of three minutes per person. Dear students, Today you will have a mid-term test, which is worth ten points. Choose one of the topics below: a) A.I. b) globalization c) English literature First, draw a concept map and a rough sketch of your slides. Dear students, Today group A will introduce their presentation topic, and tell you which criteria will be used for assessment (for example: fluency, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, content, eye contact, slides, etc). Dear students, Today you will present about a social issue from the recent survey. Each person in your pair or group should speak for at least three minutes. You should try to say something new and interesting to the audience, research well and think critically. Your slides are important, too, so please think about that. October 2nd lesson

Dear students, Last week you took a social issues survey and presented a balanced argument about one of the questions in the survey to other pairs in your class. Today, you will choose one of the questions in the survey again, but this time choose to persuade other groups why your opinion is correct. The numbers in the files below correspond to row numbers in the order that the survey was answered last week. Find your row number. Then find your group members (the numbers nearest you are people who share similar opinions to you). July 17th and 24th

Dear students, Today is your final presentation, which is worth twenty points. The order of the presenters will be randomized, so you should all be ready on the 17th regardless of whether or not you will be asked to speak. Your presentation should last at least five minues, and after you have presented, please upload your digital presentation to the private blog. UPDATE 1 Some of you still haven't posted your self-introduction or interview videos from the beginning of the semester. You should either post off your video file as an attachment using the email you have on your course outline print, or log into the private blog and publish your video as a new post. UPDATE 2 You should come to class with a back-up of your digital presentation file in case your first file gets lost or corrupted somehow. For example, if your Google drive does not open properly, you should try to open your back-up file on your USB stick. Kind regards, Chris Elvin

Dear students, Today you will get ready for your final five-minute presentation on either July 17th or July 24th. Everyone should be ready on the 17th as the order of speaker will be randomly chosen. Your topic is free, but you should remember the four main criteria; new, interesting, well researched and critical thinking. Most of your speeches are getting better and better. July 3rd lesson

Dear students, Today you will deliver your fourth presentation, politics. Remember to say something new and interesting, and to have researched and thought critically about what you will be saying. Eye contact is important, and so are effective slides. Misspelt slides look ugly, so please spell check before you present. You and your team members should present about one aspect of Japanese culture; each person will talk about one sub-topic. You should talk for at least three minutes per person, and remember to say something new, interesting, well-researched, and which includes critical thinking. Dear students, Today you will present about countries in small groups. Each person should speak for at least three minutes. You should make much eye contact with your audience, so you should refrain from reading too much. Your presentations should be well researched, and interesting to your audience. On May 15th, you deliver your speeches using presentation software such as Powerpoint or Keynote . Each person in the group should speak for a minimum of three minutes. Dear students, Today you will have your final presentations. The order of speeches will be randomized. Even though not everyone may be able to speak today, you should still all be ready.
